At
Equine Assisted Counseling LLC, all the traditional forms of counseling
are combined with a non-traditional approach using horses as an aid in
assisting the counseling process. At EAC LLC, counseling takes place
both in a traditional office setting and/or out in the arena on the
back of a horse.
For a
moment, picture yourself riding on a horse as the counselor walks by
your side or stands at the edge of the arena talking to your about
your issues. The rythmatic movement of the horse melts
away tension. The atmosphere, though very private, is also
casual. You breathe in fresh air, enjoy being outdoors, maybe
riding a horse for the first time or hundredth time in your life, but
there is a soothing connection between you and nature. This
relaxed environment may even allow you to talk more freely (as though
talking to a friend) than facing a counselor face-to-face in a room.
The counselor is using traditional counseling techniques to help you
with whatever your problem is, whether it is anxiety, depression,
trauma, self-confidence or relationships. Aside from building a
relationship with your counselor, you are also building a trust
relationship with your horse.
Not
quite ready to ride - well, that's okay too! We can start
in our relaxed counseling room or in the barn with you grooming or
walking a horse. Depending on your riding ability, we may ride
the wooded trail. But, no matter where you go, your counselor
will always be guiding you through your goals of counseling.
Although
EAC LLC is not about riding lessons, of course, you will be taught the
riding basics and challenged to learn more to increase your
self-confidence and self-esteem. A session is typically 90
minutes - plenty of time for teaching and counseling.
